Japanese FastFood by Karate Kid – Wacha!

In line with my new shift of interest to exploring fastfood meals – here’s my next post. We came across this place (Karate Kid) inside WalterMart, Makati. It had a decent amount of people lined up on the counter so we decided to try it out.

Prices are quite affordable compared to other Japanese Fast Food chains out there. Php150 bucks will do for a decent and complete meal.

We ordered the beef gyudon, yakisoba, and chicken tepanyaki – all of which hit the mark for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that its the best I’ve tasted – I’m simply saying that this goes for a decent japanese fast food meal. Expectations were met and they were all really tasty. Just one comment on the Yakisoba, I’m not an expert on japanese cuisine but the noodles are a bit off because its not as thick as what I’m used to and the flavor playfully touches on the domain of our local pancit canton – which could be what they were aiming for. Who knows.

They deliver!

Makati, Waltermart: (02) 887-2455

SM, Manila: (02) 521-0224

Other locations that are in the flyer above:

SM City Fairview, SM City San Lazaro, SM City Sta Rosa, SM City Clark, SM City Marilao, Landmark Trinoma, SM City Dasmarinas

In one of my earlier posts about Sumo Sam, I got a “hate” comment from a glorified fan of that establishment. The comment probably came from a “poser” convinced that he/she lives in a world where they are the authority – Hahaha – that’s just sad. But anyway, the reason why I’m mentioning it here is because it got me thinking whether my taste was indeed engineered to appreciate low end fast food types… interestingly, I’d have to agree. I do enjoy the cheap food trips :) Still, that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy sophisticated flavors that come with a hefty price tag.

This post is hot.. so here’s a few more pics.  This time from their branch in Ayala… service was ok tho.. line was way too long.

  • ida wrote on 6 October, 2008, 19:19

i used to work there as a cashier..not so being biased at all..the food here really digs than the other Japanese fast food!=D

  • rhianne wrote on 22 October, 2008, 22:21

i love to eat at karate kid because of the cheaper price compared to other japanese resto and the taste is the same with the expensive japanese food and the excellent service that the crew extended to their customers.

The worst experience i’ve encountered is when we dine in at Karate Kid – SM San Lazaro. It was an enjoyable mall hopping that day because it is the birthday of my friend. We decided to eat there. We ordered a lot because we have some friend joining us. There was a bitch cashier in that store which is unusual to us. Since it is a group, we have some changes in our orders but the lady who assisted us made a “MAKE FACE” to us its because she is irritated with the changes. I told her, are you okay?! and she says “YES” without any word of a “MAM”. What she did in our order drinks is she put in the tray and just telling us, dis is your order. again without a MAM! My friend told me to calm down because maybe that girl is tired of her work. But as you can imagine, all of us work and will get tired but you do not have to do to your customers.

I want to share this story of mine to the Management of Karate Kid – SM San Lazaro to make a necessary actions on this because even if I want to eat again in your store, I can’t because the lady in the cashier is still there. For your information, I got the name of your bitch staff and it is SARAH.

I hope I will get a positive feedback on this and I want that girl to be fired out so that other customers will no longer experience what we have experienced with her.

  • ida wrote on 10 November, 2008, 21:47

    rhianne> sad to hear that..
you must be an annoying costumer then.. tsk..tsk..=)
sometimes, respect can be hard to earn specially if you don’t know how to give it..
costumers are always right, but give “restaurant crews” even a little bit of kindness “ma’am”..=)
take care and hope you’ll have a superb dining at KK next time..

  • rhianne wrote on 10 November, 2008, 22:33

you know what you are telling that because you worked there. believe me, what she did to a customer like us reflects hows your establishment treat customers and we are making necessary actions to your Management who is liable in this situation. I know what customer service is and you do not have to remind me of that! Just a correction on your part, this is the right spelling of CUSTOMER.

i do not want to argue with you because i do not know you in the first place. do not worry it will be between your Management and my lawyer will be in charge for this incident. We knew that same Management runs at SM Manila and Robinson Place so better watch out for what you are saying dude!

so tell your colleague to better do her job because she is a liability at KARATE KID!!! mine me we are serious on this!

  • ida wrote on 12 November, 2008, 23:24

ahmm..thanks for checking my typo error..=)
    ooohhh..im scared…im having goosebumps already…hahaha!!!!!
    well goodluck to you..

  • rhianne wrote on 13 November, 2008, 7:01

your scared, why? are you the one involve in this?! u know you should do your work girl and solve whatever your problem is before entering into a situation that you are not involve. you think we are not serious on this. Just tell if you are the friend of that bitch cashier SARAH to ready herself this weekened because our lawyer will call your Manager.

Just for the info of all those who love to dine in at KARATE KID, the food are superb, however, if you will dine in at KARATE KID – SM San Lazaro, beware of the cashier named SARAH, she is a BITCH!

I think before you begin in any establishment, there is a training to be done for customer relation, but I think this girl is somewhat forgot what customer service is.

A friend of mine went to SM Manila last week but still that crew is still serving people. Don’t your Management really act on this?! I really love your store but if that lady out there will not be reprimanded with the Manager I think it is best to brought this up to all your branches as well as to the owner. I am acting on this because I don’t want to happen it again to me and to other people who dine in your place. She should be responsible in her act and as an adult, she should know how to value a customer!

by the way ida, don’t speak for your friend….be man enough to let her know what she did was wrong!!!!

  • rhianne wrote on 13 November, 2008, 7:12

oh i forgot….before you dine at KARATE KID – SM San Lazaro, do not placed your order to the cashier named SARAH, because she will ruin your day!!!! i bet you guys!!!!

she made Karate Kid – SM San Lazaro looks like a “carinderia” because of her attitude as PALENGKERA!!!!

I hope Management of Karate Kid will somewhat know how to act on this because we are very irritated with that lady!!!! she makes our day very horrible!!!

  • ida wrote on 22 November, 2008, 8:20

she’s the palengkera?and what do you call your self?..
i see that you seem soooooooo desperate on seeking attention by the way you really push this “thing” over this site..

it made me think that her service were really not your problem in the first place ryt?haha!coz you wont be mad like that if it is?
all of us experience the thing that you experienced but not all of us make it a big deal and bring it to the point that you want that crew to be fired..be sensitive enough dude!( to the people who depend on her [sarah] )
some people are amazingly open minded about that kind of scenarios and unfortunately your not one of US..

and just fyi….i don’t speak for anyone else, im just too irritated to the guests/customers that want some respect from others, but doesn’t deserve to be respected..you know why…ryt?

oh! the “scared” thing above that i was talking about?..ahmm..gosh! that was a joke, that doesn’t mean anything..and you supposed to be laughing at it! don’t you think?haha!slow people…………

and girl don’t be furious enough about my opinions that you start talking to me about your lawyer blah blah blah blah……also, i don’t want to correct your grammar or spellings coz im not like that..try looking at yours..=D

this would be the last i think..i don’t want to argue or anything with you anymore..you’re not worth it..
and stop calling people names (like bitch)….it can make you look more unprofessional..(no wonder the management don’t give a damn on what you’re talking about..hehe!)

    chao!

nakakatawa kayong lahat…are you just concerned with a friend or are you sarah na nagtatago sa saya!!!

i dont want to comment on all your write ups with that girl, because we will now contact the Management of Karate Kid. Instead of making sorry to us SARAH, nandadamay ka pa ng ibang tao just to pitty you!!!

excuse me i am not really a regular customer at SM SAn Lazaro it just happens that we dine in there but we normally ate at Karate Kid but that bad experience that we encountered was horrible.

anyways, no more explanations I will just talk to your Manager.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

oh by the way ida or stupida, i know that you are one of sarah’s friend so as a friend before defending her, you should talked to her and advised her to say sorry on this blog.

what happen to your friend will somehow served as a good example to you also as a crew in karate kid although not with the same branch, aren’t you?!

i am really surprised i ran into this blog…i didnt know there were negative comments /feedbacks about the same resto i wanted to complain about. i was there last feb 13. i wanted to eat in savory but my son , who wanted to show me a nice practical place to eat ..(well he wanted to show off ) i had to give in. it was my first time. i didnt receive any sarcasm during ordering. they were quite nice. but then after i looked around the place and sat down. i had a atrange feeling i was in for a bad experience. firstly. the place is totally shabby…as in not well kept. i noticed that at 815 they already had soapy buckets by the end of the room which meant they were cleaning up…to my horror. the crew serving were also the ones cleaning up. and little later on the freebie that comes with having a card came in…hmm..it was a small version of makis but then hey it was a freebie. so its ok. then this guy came in with plates. his apron was dirty ..ok lang siguro it was just a coinsidence..then the noodles i ordered arrive..but it wasnt spice as i ordered it.then the terriyaki chicken arrived..ok naman..till this guy stared serving the rice. he digs into this native bucket finished bin with his WET hands…(disgusting!). gave a cupful to my 7 year old. then my 7 year old started to scoop a spoonful when she found a ROACH in the white rice….i got so upset my i didnt want to dissapoint my son. i just shoved way the rice and told her to eat her viands instead. so my ubby who wanted to prove it was just a coincidence..and because my son started to say sorry mom about 5 times per minute. my hubby didnt mnd the horror we had just to show my son it was fine and that we will take care of the issue later. but i had to stop my tummy from throwing up. im sure it would make things worse. about 10 mins to finish. another guy started to fix the chairs were no one were sitting to signeal he was cleaning up and that they were near closing…that was fine i suppose.. till he got the soapy bin which was so discgusting and started to splat the liquid on the floor so he can start cleaning it…we hurried out. it was so gross that i had to tell my family to get out immediately. then i talked to the manager in blue and told her the whole thing.. she was nice and told me they would be given disciplinary action.. but based from this awful experience. i dont think theyr worthy of even operating!!

  • liza wrote on 14 February, 2009, 21:08

  • maya wrote on 21 June, 2009, 20:19

    hi all!

Nabasa ung mga na-post from the start.

i think wala naman dapat pagtalunan dito.

    to get each other’s side:

for ida and the rest: wala naman sigurong masama sa naramdaman ni rhianne. as a person, we must also validate her feelings. naging crew na rin ako and hindi talaga madali lalo na kung from opening to closing. how many times kong naranasan ung ganung set up pero naisip ko, pinasok ko ung trabaho and anticipated ng mapapagod ako ng husto. dito lang niya nailabas ung feelings niya so i guess we must respect that also. kung kaibigan niyo man si sarah, questioning the feelings of rhianne won’t help. lalo lang siyang maiinis. mas lalo na siguro if di kayo connected sa kanya. wag na nating gatungan pa ung galit ni rhianne.

for rhianne: i understand your feelings pero sana kinausap mo nalang ung management. sabi ko nga hindi madali maging crew. kahit siguro nging successful ako bilang crew (like always naka-smile at polite kahit sobrang pagod at inis na), hindi lahat kagaya ko at ng mga friends kong crew. sobrang magkakaiba tayo so i think, may obligasyon din tayong tulungan ang isang tao by telling her or to her manager ung negative attitude niya.

    take care guys!!

hi, ms. rhianne? may i know something? have you tried to work at food chain? have you tried serving people? i think you should try it at least a month to know their experience at their work.. You talked a lot as if you’re so great. If you’re complaining about the service of the crew (Sarah), i think you should have ask her personally. Why do you need to post it here? Are you “KSP“? or you just looking for someone to be on your side? I think you should think other people feelings before calling them “BITCH“. What if i called you “GRO” or a call-girl, then it will STABBED the center of your heart. and Lastly, why do you need small things to a big one. Are you going to die if the girl (Sarah) is still working to Karate Kid? tsk tsk.. I think you should mind your own attitude before complaining on other..

BTW, i haven’t eaten to Karate Kid or known this girl (Sarah). I just accidently find this blog and read it. I don’t like your words. You’re so sensitive and too feeling that it make you looked too perfect but it didn’t. You words or saying make you a LOW CLASS LEVEL or “Squatter” area. My comment is not about the issue. It’s about your ATTITUDE.

And what’s your problem if ida is posting her comment? This is her FREEDOM to do it. If you don’t want her to comment, Then don’t post anything. “STUPID”.. Where is your brain going? Why are you focusing on others? I think you should focus your life where it is going.. Eventhough I don’t know anything about you life.. hahaha :) ) just reminding you. Know first the situation of the worker before complaining anything.

Hope you have a nice day.. God bless ^_^

ehem… ma’am rhianne,. have you looked yourself in a mirror lately?
whos the one acting a bitch here? youre saying such harsh words when in fact you dont even know ’sarah’ personally.

all of us may have experienced such but i dont think its sumthing u shud overreact to,.. measly things like that can be laughed at.

oh yeah, youre a girl too right? dont we girls sometimes change moods in an instant, or get pissed easily specially when were having our period? try to think that way..

you wanting to sue and evrything, giving just plain testimonies without any concrete evidence, will be much useless..

    just let it go.

Rhianne, i understand what you’re trying to say since i grew up in a different country but currently in the PHIL too. You must be retarded, i mean literally. First off, 2 wrongs dont make a right and you calling the cashier a bitch makes you even so. 2nd, learn english. 3rd, obviously your parents havent taught you any manners yet. 4th, i can go on forever but my knowledge about you is only limited to your previous comments. I hope one day you or your children will end up experiencing working at a fast food chain and see how long they can keep their smiles up. Last thing, retarded filipinos like you with dumbass comments are the ones that ruin people like the cashiers’ day. pwnt.

  • Jojan wrote on 6 July, 2009, 15:17

I am checking out Karate Kid Restaurant on the web as I dined in at their Robinsons Manila branch last week and in their Ayala branch with my uncle  several weeks ago and I am trying to find out where are their other branches located and I saw this blog. Rhianne, others are right! If you have personal comments on a staff of a fast-food chain, I suggest that you call the attention of the Management themselves rather than posting it on this blog. Who knows if they are reading this blog or not. I am pretty sure that the management will attend to your complaint as soon as it has come to their attention. I had a good dining experience during my 1st two visits in Karate Kid! In Ayala branch even the queueing is long, they gave fast service not to mention their managers who are on the floor attending to customers as well. I even noticed this lady whom I think works for the head office helping out assisting customers, smiling. I saw her meeting with the managers in blue and when customers came in during lunch, she hurriedly packed her laptops and folders and brought it inside the kitchen for safekeeping, I guess, and they all helped in the Operations. I believe this curly-haired lady holds a top position in the head office and is just visiting the store but still she managed to help and assisted customers as well with a great smile. Not to mention that she has good diction and posture.

During my visit in Robinsons Manila last week with few classmates from UP, there is this male manager who acts so fasts and entertains customers. We saw that he manages the floor very well. He goes and visit and be-friend customers by asking how was their dining and if all orders were delivered. Crew members work fast as well and they are courteous and smiling. The manager calls attention of passersby by informing that Karate Kid offers Bottomless Rice and Drinks and it catched the attention of customers. Jumpacked the store!

I believe Karate Kid management is attending to customers’ feedback and complaints. You even mentioned earlier that they fired out Sarah already, so why do you have to complain up to now? If you want, to call the attention of the management, check their receipt. I noticed that there is a number where you can call for your comments and feedbacks. Or better yet, as a SOP, if you have complaint about their staff, call the attention of the store manager. Unless, it is not true that you dined in at Karate Kid SM San Lazaro. There is always a Manager on Duty in every store at any given time in all major food chains.

My recent experience is definitely different from what you have experienced and I even experienced it twice. My Chinese-friend who lives in Blumentritt said they frequent SM San Lazaro and they never encoutered such experience. They dine in at Karate Kid San Lazaro 2 – 3 times a month at okay naman for the past two and a half years. They love the shrimp tempura, sabi ni Shobe better and cheaper than Tokyo Tokyo! Kahit may Whatta Tempura ang Tokyo Tokyo, Karate Kid is the BEST TERMPURA!

I like Karate Kid sooo much! Great food and great value for money! :-)  Indeed, a Tokyo Tokyo killer. Compared to Tokyo Tokyo, they have better product quality, prices are cheaper and servings are huge. The best, so far, Japanese Restaurant in the Philippines! I love their Japanalo Beef Teriyaki, a must! ONLY Php 95, talagang “JAPANALO ITO!”!!! Is comes with a rice, 2 pcs gyoza and yakisoba, super busog for P95. Galing pa the management to give better value for money, I saw in Robinsons that you need to add P10 lang for a regular Red Iced Tea, na masarap! You can get it also at P35 pala for BOTTOMLESS! Panalo talaga! For students like me, I recommend also yung Karatepid Meal na may Regular iced tea na for P65 to P75 lang. They also have Meal for Two! My uncle and I tried Beef and Chicken Teppan na P205 lang yata yun, like P102.50 per head then Bottomless Rice and Drinks! Saan ka pa? Japanalo talaga! Uncle Ben is a regular customer of Ayala Branch since we ate there. 3x a week daw siya kumakain doon.

We do resto reviews, by the way.  Blogging has been tagged as a new tool for mud-slinging between fastfood joints since many potential customers view these blogs.  Especially “inflammatory” ones.  As to our ratings, their rice meals compare favorably with “Tokyo Tokyo”, yet their noodle-based dishes are just a bit better.

Isn’t it obvious?  The first japanese fastfood has “TT” for initials, then a newcomer enters with “KK” for its own initials?  As the saying goes, The “TT” can’t live without the “KK”.
I apologize for this absolutely corny analogy.  :-)

About the crew and staff of Karate Kid in Robinson’s Manila, they’re actually friendly. Some even refill our drinks even though we didn’t pay for bottomless ones. The weird thing which the cashier crew does that I don’t really like is that they combine all our accounts and print out only one receipt for all 4 of us friends. I was really irritated one time, and I specifically asked them not to combine our receipts and they did, although the girl stared at me blankly for a second, she did what I asked her to do.

For Rhianne (did I get the spelling right?), I respect your sentiments over the bad experience at Karate Kid, San Lazaro. But I do hope, you get over your anger for them. It’s not right to hold a grudge for a long time. It will not do you good and your future outlook in life. If what you were saying were true, I hoped the actions you took were not so drastic.

hi… i was just searching for karate kid’s branches when i got to this blog site.. surprisingly, with the comments i read from the start i forgot about the branches because of the issues here.. i’m not going to comment ’bout rhianne, ida and the rest.. i’ve tried eating at karate kid but not at any sm malls.. enchanted kingdom has its “food court” near space shuttle, we tried to buy food at karate kid and we really liked their products! i just hope karate kid could have a branch near marikina or cainta.. :)

    God bless!

gusto ko lang mag-comment dahil na-aliw ako.
    # 1, didnt realize that you need to check for grammars and spellings especially on your own blog, not unless you’re planning to have it broadcast internationally. pero infairness nag-nosebleed ako sa comments ni rhianne. *peace*
#2, ang i-init ng comments/opinions niyo regarding this issue. which hindi naman dapat umabot pa sa “lawyer thingy”. you can always call the attention of the manager or even the crew personally. always remember, even if you can file against Sara about her “customer service” problem being a liability to the company, wala pa ata akong nakikitang ganun kaso but meron MORAL DAMAGE kang nagawa kay Sara na pwede ka niyang kasuhan. *true true*
#3, ANG IMPORTANTE E MASARAP ANG KARATE KID AT MURA PA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TAPOS  :D

hay naku  miserableng kumain sa karate kid the reasons are:

    1 careless ung mga employee
2 no manners ung mga staff
3 ang babastos ng mga attorney
4 may mga foreign object sa food

dios ko  panget talaga sa karate kid
