The Happening by M. Night Shyamalan did not meet my expectations but it was quite interesting. I would still recommend watching it because it deals with a subject that is quite disturbing. I’m not sure about the science behind the event that unfolds in the movie and if at all it is possible but the way it was presented and argued in the movie was quite convincing. As we all know, we only uncovered the surface of what is really happening around us.

So overall, the story and concept was outstanding and effectively disturbing - kudos to Mr. Shyamalan. So you should still see it and just ignore the other observations that I have below.

Now let’s talk about Mark Wahlberg’s performance. I hope you will all agree that from the trailer and clips alone, we sort of get the idea that Marky Mark is trying to do a different role away from his usual typecast. Hmmm… I’m not sure if this was a success for him. He simply wasn’t that convincing - or could it be that I still couldn’t get over his stereotype roles. But still, I think you’ll agree with me that in some of his scenes, if not most, the message or emotion was not getting across - even with a good change in his tone in his lines you still see the same face he had when he was playing the bad ass in four brothers, italian job, etc. Maybe if you close your eyes, you’ll get the sense of the situation better. That’s just me ok.

If the events that unfold in the movie are at all possible… God help us. This movie is far from M. Night’s first movies - this one strikes you methodically. Curiosity… Confusion… Chaos… Realization… simply Disturbing. Its convincing and that is why its disturbing.

Oh I almost forgot - watch out for the part where Mark Wahlberg sings.  You might fall off your seat so hold on tight.  Hahaha
