I was checking out some movies from surfthechannel when I spotted this movie title – Little Manhattan. I was just looking for a movie that’s not engaging and could possibly put me to sleep because I had to wake up early the next day. Anyway, I figured from the title that this could do the trick. No research on what it was about, I just played it. Surprisingly, I’m now writing this post which means that its 3am in the morning and I did finish the whole movie.
First of all, I swear I had a smile on my face the whole time the movie was on. At first, I had no intentions of blogging about this since I already spent the day watching the Incredible Hulk and The Happening on the big screen (I promise I’ll write about it soon).
So why did I have a smile on my face?
The movie was like a short and profound version of the Wonder Years – the TV show from way back. Never really followed that series, but I did get the picture from a few episodes. So back to Little Manhattan – the story; the 2 lead characters were Gabe and Rosemary, 10 and 11 years old respectively, both living in Manhattan and were played by Josh Hutcherson (Gabe) and Charlie Ray (Rosemary). Its a fresh retreat from the movies that are coming out nowadays. Its honest, real and I think we have our own little versions of the same story. The movie was narrated by the 10 year old boy (Gabe) and its about a summer where he first fell in love (puppy love).
For those of you who have forgotten the very first time you fell in love or just thought that you were in love – check out this movie, it might trigger some warm memories. It sure did for me. There’s one particular scene that made me laugh out loud – this was the scene where he was crying – you should see the movie so you know what I’m talking about then think about the first time you cried because of love. Hahahaha – and let me know if you agree. But I think we all went through that “hopeless romantic” convincing ourselves at a very young age with the idea of love stage. Little did we know that its way more complicated.
And that’s why I had a smile on my face the whole time the movie was playing.
In my book I rate this movie – “Big Smile”.
