When I heard that they opened up a Hooters bar here in the island (Philippines) I got excited and planned a visit right away. We first went to mall of asia (moa) to do a little shopping and walk over to Hooters for a few drinks — big mistake! Why? If you’re planning to go to Hooters, bring your car. Its not as close as you think. The place it at the very end of the series of bars that line up the bay side. So I highly suggest that you move your car and park it near because after a few beers, you wouldn’t want to walk all the way back to MOA. Or you can probably take that slow ride on the free transport that “parades” you in front of other people – screaming “I’m to lazy to walk!” (kidding)

Anyway, here’s a few key notes about our Hooters trip:

• They have small hoots guys
• Not what you would expect – I doubt that these girls are just working there to put themselves through law school (like in the movies, Hahahaha)
• I don’t think the hooters chicks were selected with the pinoy market in mind – more on expat market (no offense guys)
• Nothing there seem to fit the image of huge – I ordered something called big daddy mug or something to that effect that costs around Php 160. I was expecting a liter mug just like the ones they “used” to have at Cable Car (will post in a different entry) but what I got was a regular mug. Its probably just me, but I’d expect a bigger mug from the name.
• The chicken wings – I’m not a fan of it. Some of my friends said that we should have ordered the extra hot instead of medium hot. Nevertheless, if you’ve eaten Don Henrico’s buffalo wings the day before and then order chicken wings at Hooters – you’re bound to compare and end up with the conclusion that these are tweety bird wings.
• Small cute burgers – this ones a good one
• Ambiance – it won’t blow your mind but its cozy and exactly what you’d expect.

I remembered the first time we went to Gerry’s way back when it still had a big place along Jupiter.  We went there as an army of alcoholics to check out this new place that everyone was talking about.  We were there for the feel of the place and for the ice cold beer.  We ordered the sizzling squid for the sole purpose of pulutan (beer match).  We ended up ordering rice and having a hefty meal sharing one order.  Those were the days.

Anyway, they have a new item on the menu.  The Chili Cheese Sticks – an interesting concept and that’s why I’m posting it here.  Its a true Filipino twist on your typical cheese sticks.  I sort of enjoyed it – it was new to my taste.  And I love the green chilies.  But I have to warn you, its not for everyone.  Don’t be afraid, its not that hot / spicy – it won’t numb your tongue and mess up the night for you.  Its actually (in my opinion) an exciting new thing to try but only as a side dish.  You still have to order the sisig and in my world a must have and try is the tinomok.

We heard about Kublai’s Rock through a TV show where they were featured as having one of the best burgers in town. Since we’re always looking for good eats, we decided to go to Magallanes to check out the place.

Not in the mood for burgers that night, we decided to try out the “eat all you can mongolian bbq”. For P349 per person, sulit naman. Although I remember eating for much less a couple of years back… mahal na talga ngayon.

What’s good though, Kublai peeps are very generous in heaping in the beef, pork, chicken, squid, even oysters. The ladies at the counter were also very helpful. If you dont know how much teriyaki or oyster sauce to put, just hand over your bowl to the lady and just tell them what your preference is. I prefer my bowl to be a little sweet spicy and garlicky.

Since we went on a Sunday night, service was quick and good. Ambiance is also quite cozy for a resto/bar.

Will definitely be back to Kublai’s but will try the burgers naman that other food lovers have been raving about.

Aside from good burgers, they also serve other tasty treats such as meat loaf, roast chicken, and fish and chips. Their little spinach and cheese samosas are also yum!

Save room for dessert, try their cheese cake and the pie with chocolate and icecream (forgot what it’s called, but I recall how it tasted, heavenly!)

Ambiance is cozy for quiet and comfy dinners with friends or your date/s.
