Now this is how you do viral!  Last week, this video was posted on YouTube and was linked to a site called megawoosh.com.  After only a week it had over 800,000 hits on YouTube and most probably led a few thousand viewers to their megawoosh site.  No branding was placed on the video but after you click on the link to megawoosh, you’ll immediately notice that the video was done for Microsoft.

The german is Bruno Kammerl and you’ll learn more about him on the site.  Try using google to translate the site.

This is proof that a good way for a video to go viral is to simply ‘wow’ your audience.  Branded or unbranded, if people are entertained – then they’ll be just like me and pass on the disease.  Interesting huh?  If I try to analyze this, its probably to demonstrate fun, ingenuity, precision and out of the box thinking – could it be that they wanted their viewers to feel that the new Microsoft Office Project 2007 has those traits?  Maybe…

Bottom line, it drove traffic to the site and that’s the first step.   Here’s the vid:

On the topic of viral, I’ve seen a couple of brands who don’t really understand how to go about it.  Often times they miss the point of how videos, images or even emails go viral.  I’m not an expert but if you ask me the minimum requirement is that whatever you do it should hit something in your audience whether it’s humor, fear, curiosity, etc.  The trick is to find something that will ‘wow’ them and balance it out with the brand/campaign personality – quite a challenge.  Focus on the emotional benefit – the take away, the buzz.  Branded or non-branded – as long as it’s awesome.

Imagine if the Hayden and Katrina scandals were actually viral videos done by Bench.  Huge success right?  Think about it.

Yes, you heard it right! The Best job in the world campaign scored 3 grand prixs (Cyber, PR and Direct) at the Cannes Lions.  I think they deserved it.  It was a brilliant campaign.  Oh and that campaign was the first ever to win 3 of the most sought after awards at Cannes Lions.  I wish I was there!

Anyway, here’s a link to their official entry.  Talk about setting the bar… whew! I’m pretty sure that you’ll be hearing this more often from your clients… “I want something like the best job in the world campaign…”

Anyway, here’s the case study video: (prepare to be amazed by the numbers!)

Now why didn’t I think of that?!  If you wanted to prove how good your “bra” product works, then make a bunch of hot chicks wear them and put them on a roller coaster ride.  Duh?!  This was done by Ultimo – a brand in the UK.  Remember the dream guys.. remember the dreams… was the video effective?  Sure works for me :)   Enjoy!

These guys come up with the weirdest but funniest things to do.   Go Japan!  Imagine a bunch of guys with binoculars strapped to their heads and playing football / soccer.  What the hell!?  Hahaha, real funny!

This video from 22squared about how social media conversations give birth to your brand advocates is quite entertaining.  You’ll probably nod your head a few times in agreement while watching the video.

Nowadays, it’s vital for brands to manage their online image and really take notice on online conversations about their brands.  It helps to participate in these social networks because your talking to people who are already interested and potentially help in convincing others.

Blank blank blank… hahaha.  Enjoy!

Once again, Google brings us an exciting new development in technology – they call it Google Wave.  Just a few minutes into the video, you can tell that this will change the way we look at online collaboration.  The most exciting part for me was how they combined different online social communication tools into one seamless platform.  Check it out in the video below… And they’re opening up the technology so everyone can just let their imaginations fly with innovative new applications.

If you are fascinated by the automotive world – you must see this!  Even if you’re not a fan of drifting, this is still a must see simply because its amazing.  Just don’t drive after watching this video, you might wanna do it yourself.  Hahaha.  If only it was cheap to drift, I would definitely consider this.  The video starts off with a slow setup with a “rebel” attitude feel but be patient.. . its worth the wait.  Anyway, here’s the video – enjoy!

Assuming that you first watched the video on top – I’m pretty sure that you’re psyched to go out and try this.  Let me start off by saying that its worth it!  350 bucks is not bad for a quick adrenaline rush.

Its probably the longest in Asia, but the fastest? I’m not sure about that.  It didn’t feel like I was going 100kph like the video.  I did try doing the spiderman thing and it awesome!

The trek to the top took about 15 mins.  With a nasty hangover, it was backbreaking.  Its like 5 flights of stairs.. steep ones.  Anyway, you can check out more from their official site at: http://www.outlandadventure.org/
