Yes, you read that right.  The infamous “Jejemon” now has a page on Wikipedia.

Jejemon is a pop culture phenomenon in the Philippines. Jejemons are defined by Urban Dictionary as those “who has managed to subvert the English language to the point of incomprehensibility and online lynch squads.”^[1] A Jejemon is described as one of a “new breed of hipsters who have developed not only their own language and written text but also their own sub-culture and fashion.”^[2] Jejemons also imitate “gangster” like attitudes which make them similar to the English chav, Scottish ned, Irish skanger, Russian gopnik and Australian & New Zealand bogan.

Here’s a page that compiles all the tweets by our presidential candidates.  It also shows the twitter posts from other people who mentions them and it’s all happening in real time.

Haaay.  Another day in the barbershop where interesting stories are exchanged – fact of fiction, it doesn’t matter.  In the filipino culture “Kwentong Barbero” (stories from the barbershop) simply means that you can’t really rely on that information.  Tama ba? Hahaha, or deretcho “stirero” na lang.

Anyway, it’s quite entertaining just watching the conversations that are taking place in the twitter-sphere.

This is proof that a good way for a video to go viral is to simply ‘wow’ your audience.  Branded or unbranded, if people are entertained – then they’ll be just like me and pass on the disease.  Interesting huh?  If I try to analyze this, its probably to demonstrate fun, ingenuity, precision and out of the box thinking – could it be that they wanted their viewers to feel that the new Microsoft Office Project 2007 has those traits?  Maybe…

Bottom line, it drove traffic to the site and that’s the first step.   Here’s the vid:

On the topic of viral, I’ve seen a couple of brands who don’t really understand how to go about it.  Often times they miss the point of how videos, images or even emails go viral.  I’m not an expert but if you ask me the minimum requirement is that whatever you do it should hit something in your audience whether it’s humor, fear, curiosity, etc.  The trick is to find something that will ‘wow’ them and balance it out with the brand/campaign personality – quite a challenge.  Focus on the emotional benefit – the take away, the buzz.  Branded or non-branded – as long as it’s awesome.

Imagine if the Hayden and Katrina scandals were actually viral videos done by Bench.  Huge success right?  Think about it.
