Once again, Google brings us an exciting new development in technology – they call it Google Wave. Just a few minutes into the video, you can tell that this will change the way we look at online collaboration. The most exciting part for me was how they combined different online social communication tools into one seamless platform. Check it out in the video below… And they’re opening up the technology so everyone can just let their imaginations fly with innovative new applications.

What the hell is Uzzap?

I’m pretty sure that Uzzap was derived from the filipino word “usap” which basically means – “to talk”, “have a conversation”, “discuss” – something to that effect (for our foregin friends pare).

So what the hell is Uzzap? If you haven’t been following the storm of ads that came out then you’re missing out on something that is way too convenient to pass out. I’m saying this because its still free – of course when they start charging, economics will start to kick in.

I recently installed this mobile client application so I can start playing with it. In a nutshell, its a one stop instant messaging mobile application that enables you to connect to your yahoo or msn accounts. It also has its own version where you have uzzap buddies – last but not the least, you can go into chatrooms with other registered uzzap members and talk about everything and anything under the sun.

Now we all know that most popular instant messeging apps out there also have mobile versions that enables you to stay connected all the time – but if you go that route, telecoms start charging… so essentially there are 2 good reasons for using Uzzap… 1) its still free and 2) its all you need to stay connected with friends

So far, it hasn’t bugged down on me. Every login has been successful – astig. By the way, they also have a pc version which I plan to try out next.

Easiest Way to Feel Like a Celebrity

Jojo posted this on his multiply account and I think that its a really great find so I decided to also put it up here.

Every one of us has a secret desire to get our face on a billboard, side of a building, etc. It used to be that we try to learn photoshop or at least find a friend who can manipulate our photo and put it on an existing photo of a building… now don’t get me wrong, I’m just talking about photos not getting it physically up there in public – just a digital copy.

Having said that, check out www.photofunia.com – its so easy… just select the style and filter that you want and click on browse so you can locate your photo on your local computer and upload… wait for a while as they magically render your photo behind the scenes and voila! You now have your own fancy photo – tattoo, billboard, photo frame, and many more

Trashing the Markers in Motion Capture

Yes, you read it right – there’s a new technology as reported by NewScientist.com which gets rid of the funny looking suit and the annoying ball markers in 3D motion capture. I can just imagine how this new technology will impact different sectors in our society especially entertainment.

As seen in the video below, this new system of motion capture can even capture the detailed movement in the clothes. Amazing.

Now the video above is not the exact video I saw on dw-tv so I’m not sure if its the same because I’m not a 3D guy. I just think that its cool.

World Cyber Games (WCG) Mall of Asia

We checked out SM Mall of Asia (MOA) last Saturday because there was a SALE – Yeah! I bought new curtains. That’s about it.

Anyway, my brother and a couple of my students were involved in WCG (world Cyber Games) on the side to basically do some coverage. Since they’re all multimedia students they were hired to do be videographers, photographers and to help out with the usual stuff involved in events. I decided to pay them a visit.

Its amazing how popular this event is and I’m saying that because I turned my back on games some years ago – I still enjoy a casual game or two but I realized earlier on that if I keep it up I would eventually fall to the dark side and literally get obsessed with gameplay. But that’s just me. I tend to obsess and drop everything when I get addicted to something. Moving on, it was an entertaining experience seeing fans dressed up in there favorite anime and game characters. DotA was a huge hit and while the teams were at play – the crowds kept cheering them on. I couldn’t see what was happening because I was way at the back. I went up to the 2nd floor so I could take some pictures. See for yourself:

Cool Ironman v1 costume. I also saw the following characters (sorry, wasn’t able to take photos): Optimus prime, spawn, counterstrike dudes, a bunch of anime characters – I honestly don’t know who they are.

I’m sure you’ll see a lot of posts about this event. I saw a number of people with kick ass cameras taking shots and I have a strong hunch that most of them are bloggers because they didn’t have the usual media ID around their necks… or they’re just huge fans. Either or I think I too feel the need… the need to play.

Blog – humble beginnings (start it up!)

Web log = BLOG

I’m sure by now you’ve heard about blogging. If not, well read on – I might be able to share some useful information to you.

The word blog is like an abbreviation of Web log – a place where one can post anything he/she would like. Some call it an online diary.

More and more people are starting to earn from blogging. The gold pot at the end of the cyber rainbow is normally fueled by ads and affiliate programs. Its a big popularity contest, more hits means equals good commercial value. Think of it like a virtual billboard and you try to build a better road so more and more traffic comes passing by every day. Ain’t that sweet.

Anyway, allow me to detail some steps on how you can easily set one up. Let’s start with the basics:

1. You will need your own domain name – think of something sweet and short. Make sure it connects to what you want it to be about. I’d recommend your nickname if its still available, or try adding blog to it. For example, if your name is Mike, I’m pretty sure its taken already – try Mikeblog or blogmike.com or mikeworld or mikethoughts or miketips – you get the picture. I chose monstercomments simply because I have a monster in me that’s dying to share some comments.

2. Webhosting – I”m using godaddy.com. Saw it in an ad once and figured that they’ll be around for a long time. In choosing your webhost, be sure it can stand ground and last for a very very long time, if not forever. It also helps if the hosting company offers automated install of blog systems like wordpress.

3. Choose a blogging software. I use wordpress. Why? I really don’t know. I just found a really supportive community around it. If you ask me, the community is the backbone that guarantees success for any open source software out there. The community gives you a sense of security that you can always run to someone if you encounter problems, it let’s you sleep when you think about features to add to your blog (plugins – lots of it).

4. Organize your thoughts. Surf a little and read other blogs to get you started. Then start setting up categories, plugins, etc. Then post your heart out and tell your friends about it.

I’m planning to post a few more topics to help you get started. Hopefully, I can turn this blog into a profitable one and I promise you that I’ll post everything that I discover so we can all benefit from it.

How To Optimize Your Image File Size

It has always been a challenge to edit your photos to a more acceptable file size that you can easily email or quickly upload to your favorite community websites. More experienced web surfers will open up photoshop and optimize their photos either through the “save for web” or the automated “create a gallery” method.

There are a number of softwares out there that promise to give you an easy to use interface at XXX amount of dollars – and you only need to decrease the filesize of your photos – its really not worth it. In fact, Adobe Photoshop will set you back a couple of hundred dollars and 90% of its features – you won’t even use.

Don’t worry… today I’ll share with you the easiest way manage the file size of your photos using Microsoft Powerpoint. Let’s go!

Here’s a simple step by step process on how you can use powerpoint (yes, powerpoint) to manage the file size of your photos. After this, I’m pretty sure that you’ll be able to upload your photos faster and well within the limits set by your favorite community websites – such as LokalFashion.com.

Open Microsoft Powerpoint
File > New > Blank Presentation
File > Page Setup
In the drop list for slide size, select custom
Set your width to 6 inches and your height to 4 inches – this will give you an acceptable size for web
Click ok
Next, start importing your photos. Click on Insert > Picture > From File > Then navigate to your photos. Tip: You can also open yor windows file explorer, right click on a photo and select Copy then Paste it to the slide in Powerpoint. (works just fine)
Make sure to resize each photo to the fit well on each slide. Simply select your photo and drag the corner to the size of the slide.
The more photos, the more slides you will end up.
When you’re done importing all your photos into separate slides – its time to save them for web.
Click on File > Save As > Type in a filename (for example: myphotos)
Then from the drop list for Save as Type: Click and select JPEG
Click on Save and Powerpoint will ask you to save current slide only or all slides – select all slides and this will create a folder with all the photos you posted into the slides as JPG files at web safe file sizes.
VOILA! You now have a resized and optimized photo that is probably below 200kb, which means that it can get uploaded faster.

Tip: You can also use powerepoint to add some taglines and titles to your photo and with a little bit of practie, you can create a collage or even add borders and stuff.

So there.. Today we learned how to optimize the filesize of our photos using Powerpoint (Im pretty sure you have that installed).
